 THE BEST OF HEALTH

Blackmores is Australia’s leading natural health company. Based on the vision of our founder Maurice Blackmore (1906-1977), we are passionate about natural health and inspiring people to take control of and invest in their wellbeing. We develop high-quality products and services that deliver a more natural approach to health, based on our expertise in vitamins, minerals, herbs, and nutrients.

Heritage & History

Blackmores has been an industry leader in Australia for more than 80 years. Our company had its beginnings in the 1930s, thanks to the vision and passion of one man, Maurice Blackmore, an English immigrant whose ideas about health were way ahead of their time.

Leadership: A series of firsts

Maurice Blackmore’s (1906-1977) belief in the health-giving properties of herbs and minerals led him to develop a whole system of healthcare based on naturopathic principles. His views on natural health, preventive medicine, the environment and recycling were nothing short of radical in the 1930s, and his work opened the doors to new ways of treating illness and maximising health.

Maurice was also responsible for starting one of Australia’s first health food stores in Brisbane in 1938 and he worked with colleagues and friends to establish the first naturopathic colleges and professional associations in the country. His beliefs are still valid today and his teachings are incorporated into the training programs of many natural health practitioners.

Maurice Blackmore’s son, Marcus, took the reins of the business in 1975. As Blackmores’ Chairman, Marcus has furthered the vision established by his father and made Blackmores a world leader in natural health, all the while committed to the company’s founding principles.

Blackmores’ unrivalled heritage is at the heart of who we are today and guides our holistic approach to health and wellbeing. We are proud to be pioneers in natural healthcare and remain committed to delivering new and innovative products, reliable health information and unsurpassed quality to our customers.

Quality & safety

At Blackmores we never compromise on quality, always placing the health and safety of our consumers at the heart of our business.

Blackmores’ extensive range of vitamins, minerals, herbal and nutritional supplements is developed by in-house experts using high quality ingredients from around the world and made to exacting requirements under the international Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention and Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/s) standards of good manufacturing practice (GMP) in accordance with Australian requirements.

Blackmores is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of its consumers at all times. As part of this commitment Blackmores advertises its products responsibly by complying with relevant advertising regulations and codes of practice.  Blackmores does not advertise any of its products directly to children.

Best possible ingredients

Blackmores works with some of the world’s leading raw material suppliers, going to great lengths to source high quality ingredients that comply with our strict ingredients policy. It’s these ingredient choices that underpin the efficacy and quality of our finished products.

Our strategic sourcing team travels the world to ensure we have transparency over the supply chain safeguarding quality and alignment to our sustainability principles. For example, when sourcing our fish oil we conduct audits of the fisheries and keep records of the exact fishing zones for each batch used in our products.

Across the extensive range of Blackmores products, we have never compromised on quality and never will.

Expert team of formulators

Blackmores’ products are developed by a highly experienced and dedicated team of formulators including naturopaths, chemists, scientists and product development pharmacists.

Each formulation is based on an in-depth knowledge of the principles and practise of product formulation, along with a rigorous and comprehensive review of the latest scientific advancements in natural medicine.

Blackmores only produces products that science and tradition support as providing a health benefit to our consumers, and we hold evidence to support all the claims we make on our products.

Rigorously tested and approved

As an Australian company, Blackmores adheres to the some of the most rigorous safety and quality standards in the world. Unlike many other countries, Australia regulates complementary medicines within the same legal framework as pharmaceutical drugs.

Each Blackmores product passes more than 30 rigorous quality tests and checks during all stages of the manufacturing process, prior to being released to market. We retain a sample from every single batch produced to cover the whole shelf life of the product and complete ongoing testing and quality monitoring.

Products that do not meet our very high quality standards are simply not accepted.

We also commission independent chemical and microbiological testing at GMP-licensed laboratories for all our products, as well as work with a variety of regulatory and government bodies to understand the complexities of each markets’ requirements and successfully achieve compliant registrations.

Consumers can have confidence that all our products meet our demanding specifications and they are getting the same quality product inside every single bottle.

Trust has to be earned not bought and we recognise that consumers put their trust in us when it comes to their health.

Research and innovation

As an industry leader, Blackmores is always seeking to drive innovation. Each year we commit to a strong new product pipeline based on the latest research and scientific findings to enable us to provide quality health solutions with a strong evidence base.

In 2018 Blackmores invested in more than 74 clinical trials, research projects and scholarly activities in partnership with some of the best educational and research institutions across Asia-Pacific.

We also helped fund two research fellowships at the Australian Research Centre in Complementary and Integrative Medicine at the University of Sydney.

Reporting adverse reactions

Good health is at the heart of everything we do at Blackmores. It’s why we exist. Therefore, we take the unlikely event of an adverse reaction to one of our products extremely seriously.

If this happens, we comply with the requirements of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to report the case immediately and take corrective action without delay.
